Let's Eat & Be Messy with Boon (Day 11)

Today's I (Janessa from Thrifty Nifty Mommy) have some great food prep items to show you from Boon Inc, one of my favorite baby/children product companies!

Let's start with the Nanner. I think it's pretty self explanatory. You put the banana in, use your hands to close it, and presto--perfectly sliced bananas! My son loves bananas. I think its safe to say that that is his favorite food right now. He eats a banana almost every day, and he really prefers that it not be mashed anymore. The Nanner works great to slice the banana perfectly for him. I'm already thinking about how great this will be for slicing bananas for fruit salad this summer! The Nanner is priced at $11.99 which I think is a pretty reasonable price for a kitchen gadget. It seems very well made and like it will hold up to many banana cuttings, which is great since I think it will be useful long after my kids no longer need their bananas sliced!

Next up is the Pluck. The Pluck is meant for plucking strawberry hulls effortlessly and I can see how well it will work. Now, to be honest, I don't normally buy strawberries from the grocery store in the middle of winter. They are on the "Dirty Dozen" list for heavy pesticides, so I prefer to buy them in season and then freeze a bunch for the winter time. SO I didn't have any strawberries to try this on yet.  I wanted to still try it, so I actually used it to get the stem out of an apple, and it worked great for that too. I am really excited to use it this summer on my fresh strawberries though, because I feel like I waste a lot of the strawberry trying to dig the hulls out! It's priced at just $9.99.

Onto the Slicer. You use the Slicer very similar to the Nanner. You put your soft fruit or veggie in there and squeeze. Remember how I said I don't buy strawberries during the winter--I do have some in my freezer (with the hulls already removed) so I used my Slicer on some thawed strawberries. It worked great at slicing the strawberries. We eat a lot of mushrooms in our house, and it's also perfect for slicing mushrooms, other soft fruit and veggies, cheeses and eggs.  Again, this is something that I will be using not only for the kids, but for our adult food as well. The Slicer is priced at $17.99.

Last of all, let's talk about the Mush. The Mush is a manual-powered food processor. All you do is pull the handle to spin the blades and chop up fruits, veggies, or boneless meat for your baby.

This was my daughter's favorite item. Maggie is almost 3 years old and wants to help mommy. I've always tried to make her as much a part of the care of her baby brother as possible (if she wants to) so that she doesn't feel left out. She was so excited to help me make baby food for him. I used my Nanner and sliced some bananas, then steamed apples and blueberries. We combined all 3 in the Nanner (with a little bit of lime juice) and then Maggie started pulling the ring. She couldn't pull the ring with enough arm strength to fully puree it, but she didn't know that. She had so much fun chopping it, and then I finished it off. After about 20 pulls on the string we had this:

I love that the Mush is so compact that it's easy to take with you wherever you go! It also comes with a lid to make storage easy. The Mush is priced at $24.99.

Lastly, I want to mention that all of these items (except for the lid with the pull ring for the Mush) are all dishwasher safe. As a busy mom, this is always very important to me! Just put them on the top rack of your dishwasher.
